Chocolate memories from my childhood in the 1950's, back when so much chocolate was available for a dime!
I don't care about how this "dates" me, I have fond thoughts of chocolates from my childhood. Here's a retro look at those fabulous 50's chocolate delights.
Chocolate cigarettes - these candies were popular back when it was still cool to smoke real cigarettes; Humphrey Bogart was our dads' idol and wasn't that cigarette hanging out of his mouth his signature? Us kids used to run around imitating him with our chocolate cigarettes.
Tootsie Rolls - chewy little chocolate rolls that lasted for a long time if you just sucked on them.
Tootsie Roll Pops - my favorite was the chocolate of course; chocolate lollipop around a chewy Tootsie Roll center. There were fruit flavored ones too, I remember grape and cherry.
Chocolate Gold Coins - milk chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil. These used to show up in Christmas stockings and Easter baskets, never failed. Not my favorites but chocolate is as chocolate does.
Necco Chocolate Wafers - crispy snaps that were a mainstay at the movie theater.
Chocolate Ice Cubes - how did they make them taste icy as they melted in your mouth? Mmm, these were the best.
Non-Pareils - another favorite in the movie theater, chocolate drops covered with little white candy balls.
Chocolate Lips - ah, third grade romance; I remember the Valentines Day card, "your teeth are like stars...they come out at night", accompanied by some chocolate lips.
Junior Mints - to round out your chocolate eating pleasure at the movies. Just what they say, bite sized mints covered in chocolate. These and Ice Cubes were my favorites.
